In past projects, Simon has quantified the effects of climate change on river flows and water resources availability for the Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs. He has integrated a river-routing model into the Met Office’s regional cl
imate model to enable developing countries to predict the effects of climate change on flood and drought risk, in work funded by the Department for International Development. Simon is also lead author on the Oxford Martin School Floods Restatement Project to evaluate the scientific evidence base for natural flood management in the UK.
Simon holds an MA from the University of Oxford, an MSc from the University of British Columbia, and a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. Prior to arriving at the School of Geography and Environment, Simon was a Senior Environmental Modeller at the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology in Wallingford where he remains a CEH Fellow. Simon is Academic Director of Oxford’s M.Sc. in Water Science Policy and Management, and a member of the OECD Global Water Partnership Task Force on Water Security, Risk and Growth.
